Throughout my health coaching course, I learnt the pros and cons of more than 100 different diets. With so many different diets available to us and lots of them claiming to be the next big thing, how on earth do we work out which one actually works for us? The answer to this is actually quite simple and really just involves going back to basics and purposefully trying to forget almost everything we’ve ever been told about diets.

In my opinion, there is only one diet that works for you as an individual and that is the Elimination Diet.

There are three main food groups that cause the most irritation and irritability to our digestive systems. These are dairy, grains and refined sugars. The single best thing you can do for your own health and wellbeing is to take one of these food groups out of your diet for a month of two, then re-introduce it and take note of how you feel once it’s been re-introduced.

If you’re still suffering with food-related issues after eliminating the three main culprits, try eliminating a few of these common ones – soy, eggs, fish, shellfish, caffeine, gluten and nuts.

This elimination process will give you the best idea on what works and what doesn’t work for you as an individual and that is much more powerful than following any type of ‘diet’.
